The General Support Force (FAG) of the Timor-Leste Defence Force (F-FDTL) is a strategic unit that plays a crucial role in supporting the operations and overall functioning of the armed forces. Its primary mission is to provide the resources, services, and infrastructure needed to ensure the operational efficiency and readiness of the F-FDTL in various contexts, both during peacetime and in emergencies or conflict situations.

Mission and Functions

The FAG consists of several specialized units working together to meet the logistical, technical, and administrative needs of the armed forces. The key responsibilities of the General Support Force include:

  • Logistics and Supplies: Ensuring the provision of essential materials such as ammunition, fuel, food, uniforms, and other items critical to military operations.

  • Infrastructure Maintenance: Managing, repairing, and constructing military facilities such as barracks, warehouses, workshops, and training centers.

  • Medical and Health Services: Providing medical support to military personnel, including emergency care, hospital services, and preventive health programs.

  • Human Resources and Financial Management: Ensuring efficient administration of personnel, payroll, and benefits for F-FDTL members.

Role in Sustaining Operations

The FAG is essential to the success of military operations, as it provides the means for other operational units to carry out their duties effectively. During field missions, the FAG is responsible for establishing forward bases, transporting supplies, and supporting troops on the move. Additionally, in national emergencies such as natural disasters, the General Support Force is often mobilized to provide humanitarian aid, distribute resources, and assist in rebuilding affected communities.

Training and Capacity Building

To fulfill its mission with excellence, the FAG continually invests in the training and capacity building of its members. Personnel receive technical training in areas such as logistics, engineering, resource management, and first aid, ensuring a high level of competence and readiness.

Modernization and Sustainability

The FAG is committed to modernizing its processes and resources. This includes the use of advanced technologies to improve supply chain management, digitize administrative processes, and optimize resource use. Additionally, sustainability initiatives, such as efficient energy use and responsible waste management, are integrated into the Force’s operations.

Contribution to National Development

Beyond its military functions, the FAG plays a significant role in the development of Timor-Leste. Through its infrastructure and technical expertise, the General Support Force contributes to civilian projects such as road construction and community buildings, promoting the well-being of the population and strengthening the role of the F-FDTL as an institution serving the nation.
