FIRST BATTALION

The First Battalion of the FALINTIL-FDTL (Battalion I) was established on February 1, 2001, marking the transition of FALINTIL into Timor-Leste's national armed forces. Its primary mission is national defense, safeguarding territorial integrity, and contributing to international security.

Battalion I symbolizes the resilience and sacrifice of the Timorese people. Initially based in Taibesi, it later moved to Baucau as a strategic base. The unit trains soldiers in combat skills, leadership, and tactics.

Over the years, Battalion I has been involved in national operations, such as border security and internal threat prevention. It has also played a significant role in natural disaster response and humanitarian assistance programs.

As a cornerstone of the F-FDTL, the battalion continues to develop military training rooted in moral values, patriotism, and dedication to sovereignty. The unit also fosters strong relations with civilian and international partners, showcasing professional and responsible defense capabilities.
