Baucau Authority Considers Popular March to Commemorate FALINTIL Sacrifice for 50 Years

(F-FDTL Media) The FALINTIL (Timor-Leste Defense Forces), together with veterans, youth, and students from the Baucau Municipal Authority, including communities, are celebrating the 50th National Day of the Armed Forces for the National Liberation of Timor-Leste (FALINTIL) with the theme "Extending Peace to the World," said the Minister of Social Solidarity and Inclusion (MSSI), Verónica das Dores.
To commemorate FALINTIL Day, the popular walking march began at 4:00 a.m. at the home of the late Sahe in Bucoli and arrived at the Baucau Municipal Administration building at 9:00 a.m. to commemorate FALINTIL Day at the Baucau Municipal Administration building. After the march, Maria Celestina Viegas, Baucau Municipal Secretary of Social Affairs, explained that, in commemoration of FALINTIL Day, the Municipal Authority, together with the F-FDTL, held several activities to honor this important day.
"Today, we are all together to commemorate FALINTIL Day, August 20, 1975-2025. We all know that our great martyr in the Municipality of Baucau is our Hero Vicente Sahe, so we march from this place to continue paying our respects to Sahe and other martyrs."
Furthermore, the Secretary of the Baucau Municipal Veterans Council, Manuel da Costa Soares, stated that FALINTIL Day is an important moment to remember the heroes who fought and who also marched from the east to the national territory. "We are walking in the footsteps of FALINTIL, conveying to everyone the message to respect this day. We don't feel tired, but rather happy to leave our generations the commemoration of this day so important to our heroes."
The RDTL National Flag Ceremony was attended by members of the F-FDTL, PNTL, Civil Security, Firefighters, Students, and Scouts, and also featured activities such as theatrical performances, cultural dance, and other activities, as well as climbing and rope climbing, organized by the Baucau Municipal Authority, in conjunction with the FALINTIL-FDTL Authority and the Security and Veterans Department.
