The Chief of the General Staff of the FALINTIL (Timor-Leste Defense Forces), Lieutenant General Domingos Raúl Falur Rate Laek, said it was necessary to lay flowers at this site to remember the sacrifices made by the heroes and heroines for this country and those who were lost or buried before the war. We are here to pay tribute to our FALINTIL, because the suffering we are experiencing is not heavy, but your sacrifice is even heavier for us.

The Chief of the General Staff of the F-FDTL also called on the youth and the new generation to follow the memory of the FALINTIL heroes. The ceremony was attended by members of the Government, members of the National Parliament, the Chief of Staff of the F-FDTL, Domingos Raúl Falur Rate Laek, retired Lieutenant General Lere Anan Timur, veterans and family members of former combatants, and delegations from foreign countries.

The wreath-laying ceremony was held to commemorate the 50th anniversary of FALINTIL Day (August 20, 1975, to August 20, 2025) with the theme "Extending Peace to the World."
