Heavy rains damage infrastructures in the Naval Component of the F-FDTL

Hera, January 2, 2025
The Commander of the Naval Component of the F-FDTL, Commodore Higino das Neves, said that the rain that occurred yesterday on Wednesday (01/01/2025) in Hera resulted in damage to 90 percent of the military infrastructure of the Naval Component.
He said, the dam that the company made is small in size so it cannot block the small river in the Hera area so when the high intensity mountain rain could not block the intensity of the river then and the river must flow to the Naval Component base to damage the military facilities in the Hera Naval base.
Yesterday afternoon it started to rain a little suddenly three rivers in Hera meet the dam that the company made for the Naval Component is very short so the three rivers meet then drill the dam and the water enters the Naval base destroyed the infrastructure of the naval military base here. The facilities that were damaged all consist of two cars, but some are still fine, the military motorcycles are almost completely damaged and water from the weapons got in, all of them were damaged, the barracks are not being used because the water got in, including computers as well,” said the Commander of the Naval Component, Commodore Higino das Neves. He said that since last night until today the Naval Component has not been working because all the materials were washed away. This morning we cleaned up, since last night we have not had any drinks because water got in and since last night we have not had any drinking water. There is no water to offer to the Naval Component, he added. Neves said that the Baucau Land Force also came down to help, to clean up the garbage, including the FALINTIL Unit, the Military Police Unit, the Headquarters, the Metinaro Training Center, the Engineering Force, including the Fire Department, the Institute for the Management of Infrastructure Development Support Equipment (IGEADI) and the Ministry of Works. Publish, to help normalize the river so that if it rains the river cannot enter the Naval Component.
He explained that the dam that the company built was supposed to reach the sea but the company was unable to do so and he left the dam that came to the Naval Component short so that until the rainy season the river runs destroyed thus causing the floods that the Naval Compound is suffering today.
"This was the fourth flood, but this is the worst. And it will take a week for this place to return to normal," he said.
At the same location, the Chief of Staff of the F-FDTL, Brigadier General José da Costa Soares "TRIX" stated that the military infrastructure and military installations of the Hera Naval Component - 90% of all assets - were destroyed due to the heavy rains yesterday afternoon, at 2 pm.
In addition, the Vice Chief of Staff of the F-FDTL, Major General Calisto Santos Coliati, stressed that all weapons and equipment, military clothing and barracks were completely damaged.
"The infrastructure of the Hera naval base was destroyed, including weapons. This requires urgent intervention by Public Works because the naval base belongs to the country, not to an individual, it is not a private company that provides the country's infrastructure. I believe that in situations like this, the political power in the area of infrastructure must be alert and provide urgent support because at this moment we do not know whether it is a hot day but in the mountains it is dark if the river goes down again," he said. He did not criticize, but this is just an appeal for the country's political power to pay attention to this situation because the infrastructure at the Hera Naval Base is bought with bones and blood. "In twenty years, our State, our Government has lost a lot of money, now for all of us who are servants of the State, servants of the Nation, each one of us must pay attention to our role to look at issues like this. We are now in the phase of building the State. We are not demanding, we are not angry, all our weapons and clothes ended up in the sea," he said. The Head of the IGEADI Dili Brigade, António Sarmento, said: ̈ IGEADI always provides support to those affected by floods, both in Dili and in the municipalities.
̈ Our Naval Component provided two pieces of heavy equipment to normalize the river, but tomorrow we will support two more Bludosers to address the sedimentation that is here.
