FALINTIL-FDTL Command Carries out General Cleaning in National Territory to Celebrate World Oceans Day 2025

Dili, June 4, 2025

The FALINTIL-FDTL Command - Timor-Leste Defence Forces (F-FDTL) began today a general clean-up in the national territory to celebrate World Oceans Day 2025.

In an interview, the Chief of Operations of FALINTIL-FDTL, Colonel João da Costa Esteves, stated that today's general clean-up does not refer to a specific location, but rather to almost all locations. The F-FDTL Institution received guidance from the Ministry of Defense to celebrate World Oceans Day, so that Timor-Leste and the entire world know how to protect the environment, as we are an institution. FALINTIL-FDTL will carry out general clean-up from today until Friday.

In addition to the general cleaning, we also received further guidance from the FALINTIL-FDTL Command for a team to give lectures and socialization activities to schools that are stationed near the risk area and how they can learn about environmental procedures.

He added that the Command also appealed to communities not to throw garbage arbitrarily. I think this appeal is not new, we have done it many times, but we need to raise awareness in the communities so that we can then ask our communities to throw garbage in the places that the State and the Government, through the Municipal Authority of Dili, have prepared.

The FALINTIL-Timor-Leste Defence Forces (F-FDTL) Command clearing route is as follows: Clearing of the F-FDTL Headquarters, from the Maloa River to the coast; Air Component and FALINTIL Unit, from the Kasnafar River to the coast; General Military Support Force (FAG) and Police Directorate, from Lahane Hospital, from the Taibesi River to the Bidau River; Naval Component, from the BJ Habiebie Bridge to Cristo Rei and Dolok Oan.

The members included in the general clean-up are the entire Component and Unit, including posts deployed throughout the territory of Timor. They can coordinate with local authorities, the PNTL Municipal Commander and the Land Force Component today, tomorrow and tomorrow.
